On Tuesday, September 1st, Milwaukee attorney and NBTA member Michael Hupy helped support low-income citizens in need of legal assistance by donating $50,000 to the Milwaukee Justice Center. According to their website:

The Milwaukee Justice Center utilizes volunteers to address the unmet legal needs of Milwaukee County's low-income unrepresented litigants through court-based programs and legal resources.

Hupy has always believed in supporting the Milwaukee Justice Center - This is his second large donation. The first was $100,000. - and says the Center helps 10,000 clients each year who would not otherwise be able to afford legal services.

NBTA's Houston Chapter is excited to announce its next CLE event. Open to both members and non-members, this 60-minute, SBOT Continuing Legal Education program and social hour will be led by Jim Perdue, Sr., once described as the "king" of Texas medical malpractice lawyers by Forbes magazine.

The event -- set for Sept. 24, from 4:00-6:00 PM -- will be held at Gordon, Arata, McCollam, Duplantis & Egan LLC. McGehee, Chang, Barnes and Landgraf, LP will host the social hour that follows.

The National Board of Trial Advocacy is honored and pleased to announce that it is sponsoring this year's Tournament of Champions, an invitation-only competition that showcases some of the nation's top law students from 16 of the top trial advocacy institutions.

To be held Oct. 29-31, law students will compete in teams of four, and each team will try both sides of a civil case — twice as plaintiffs and twice as defendants. In addition to the opportunity to compete against some of the nation's top law talent, participants also receive the benefit of intensive, one-on-one coaching from top-tier professionals in law school trial advocacy programs.

Over the past few months, NBTA members have begun participating in and serving as experts for Your Legal Rights, a radio program and podcast that discusses various legal issues and includes listener participation. From criminal issues such as the death penalty to family and civil law issues, topics run the gamut.

But now, we're making it even easier to listen if you miss the live broadcast. NBTA now has its own archive for all members' Your Legal Rights broadcasts. As of today, nine members have already participated with more to come.

Did you know that July was Women's Motorcycle Month? 

In fact, there are now more women riders than ever with an estimated 4.3 million women motorcyclists on the road today. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation reports that women make up nearly 30 percent of students in its Basic RiderCourse program. However, despite many female riders taking proper safety measures, accidents still occur.
